     When we started the design process of the Kiptaş Meydan Evler project, we had an important input. “Social Housing” This project should have defined the adjective of social housing in every aspect. What is social housing? Of course, we must have read the definition of this from many sources, but the question of how social housing should be is a question that is still debated today and the answers continue to evolve by colliding with each other. At this point, when starting the design, we first sought an answer to the question of how social housing should be. In this small-scale preliminary research process, we examined many campus structures, from upper segment residential campuses to districts of Istanbul that are still in the neighborhood structure, and to mid-segment housing estates sandwiched between these districts. In the first place, this observation enabled us to find answers to the question of how social housing should be, rather than how it should not be. Social housing should not consist of unaware of each other, imprisoned behind walls in isolated and disconnected blocks. This led us to our original answer. Social housing should be “social”, it should be in a structure that integrates with its environment instead of blocking its environment and allows life to flow through it. After reaching this answer, we developed the concept design process of the project under two main headings;

Permeability and challenge.

PERMEABILITY

The project should not have been closed to its surroundings due to its location. It should have allowed the pedestrian axes opening to different levels to flow out of the project area. This understanding is an understanding of construction seen in cities built by modern societies. This city is in the common ownership of every citizen, increasing the efficiency of public spaces can be made possible not only by public buildings but also by transforming residential complexes into public spaces. In this context, the Kiptaş Meydan Evler project has risen on the foundations of modern urbanism and has a permeable settlement integrated with its surroundings.

SQUARE

While the permeability design of the project passes through it without interrupting the daily pedestrian circulation, the basic need of the concept is that all this flow stops in a square and continues on its way. The square concept, which initially set out for the purpose of a stop, expanded as the design process progressed and the square increased in size and had the spirit of a neighborhood square. This square has turned into a large urban design object that contributes to the functioning of public functions as well as being a social area thanks to the social opportunities and landscape designs it contains. The shape of the blocks as they surround this square, the differentiation of their heights and forms with this wrapping movement, and the facade design that expresses this differentiation in a colorful way makes the Kiptaş Meydan Evler project an exemplary project among modern social housing projects.

As the architects of the project, we wish you to experience the modern social housing life that Kiptaş Meydan Evler, which has an idealist and modernized design process behind it, will offer to you valuable residents, and that the new urbanization approach of Istanbul will touch your life with its positive aspects.
